Rules Of Golf For The Order Of Play (Rule 10)
Match Play.
The side that is given the honor on the first tee is normally decided by the order of the draw and is otherwise decided by lot.
During the game the side which wins a hole will take the honor on the following tee. Where a hole is halved the side that last held the honor will retain it for the next hole.
Once in play, the ball farthest from the hole is played first and, where it is not possible to determine which ball lies farthest from the hole, the order of play is decided by drawing lots.
Where a player plays out of turn no penalty is incurred but his opponent can require the player to cancel the stroke played and, in the correct order, to play another ball from as near to the original lie of the ball played out of order as can be determined.
Stroke Play.
As in match play, the honor on the first tee is decided by the draw or by lot.
The player with the lowest score on the first hole will then have the honor on the second teeing ground, with the other players similarly playing in the order of their scores on the first hole.
The game will then continue in this fashion.
Once in play the order of play on stroke play is identical to that for match play.
