How To Swing A Golf Club - Choosing Your Club
Okay, so you now know how to execute the perfect backswing, a powerful and directed downswing and a balanced and graceful follow through. That's it isn't it? Well, not quite.
One last thing we need to cover is the selection of clubs to use for practicing your golf swing because clubs vary widely and can make a considerable difference. There is a lot to take into consideration from the loft a club gives the ball through the lie angle to the club length.
One natural choice for the beginner will be your driver which is your longest club, provides the least amount for loft and has the flattest swing plane. Another common choice is the sand wedge which is the shortest club, provides the highest amount of loft and has a very steep swing plane.
Unfortunately, despite the fact that these two clubs are often chosen, neither of them is suitable for learning your golf swing. Both of these clubs, because of their length at both extremes, create unique swing conditions which need to be learned after you have mastered the basics.
The Best Club To Get Started With
For most beginners 7-iron is a good club to choose for practicing your golf swing as it falls in the middle of your golf club set in terms of length and action and is much easier to control than the other clubs.
The 7-iron has an average swing plane and the perfect amount of loft for beginners trying to practice a standard shot.
All too often beginner golfers are given advice about club selection and end up using clubs which do not produce the best results when they are trying to learn to play the game. For instance, if you decide to practice with a wedge then your ball is going to have a lot of backspin on it because of the high loft of the club and this will produce poor golf shots with a lot of hooks and/or slices.
